HISTORY OF PETERSFIELD PROBUS CLUB
The club celebrated its 45th anniversary in January 2022, making it one of the district's longest established social organisations, many current members have been part of the proceedings for over twenty years.
The inaugural meeting was held at The Red Lion, Petersfield on 27th January 1977 under the acting chairmanship of Bill Morgan, Charles Dyer was appointed secretary and twenty prospective members attended.
Membership grew steadily and within five years had almost doubled.
In line with the growth of membership the club looked to embrace their various activities from a new base and in 1983 moved to The Half Moon at Sheet where meetings have been held continuously to the present day.
In 1994 with a membership of over fifty and a long waiting list, it was decided to pursue the formation of a second Probus club to serve the Petersfield area, this led to the creation of Southdown’s Probus Club which also continues as an active club.
